Advanced Course in Cytoreductive Surgery for Gynecologic Peritoneal Surface Malignancies: Radical Pelvic and Upper Abdominal Procedures with Cadaver Dissection
Live Course
Activity Details
Activity Name:
Advanced Course in Cytoreductive Surgery for Gynecologic Peritoneal Surface Malignancies: Radical Pelvic and Upper Abdominal Procedures with Cadaver Dissection
Description:
Live Course
Needs Assessment:
Cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer, and other gynecologic peritoneal surface malignancies, is the key factor determining the amount of residual disease prior to beginning adjuvant chemotherapy and is the strongest clinician-driven determinant of survival. Despite this fact, successful surgery is achievable in fewer than 50% of cases of advanced ovarian cancer in most centers in the United States and worldwide. This deficiency is mainly due to a lack of familiarity of practicing gynecologic oncologists and surgical oncologists with the array of advanced cytoreductive surgical procedures needed to achieve a minimal residual disease state. We have numerous requests from physicians in our local, regional, national, and international communities to expand educational opportunities with regard to advanced cytoreductive surgery in gynecology.
Course Objectives:
Describe the prognostic impact of minimal residual disease achievable through advanced cytoreductive surgical procedures.
Discuss the advantages, limitations, and indications for advanced cytoreductive surgery in gynecological practice.
Describe the critical steps in performing advanced cytoreductive surgical procedures in gynecology.
