Sleep Disorders Seminars
Sleep Disorders Seminar Series in Southern CA - 7 credits each
Activity Details
Activity Name: Sleep Disorders Seminars
Description: Sleep Disorders Seminar Series in Southern CA - 7 credits each
Needs Assessment: Gap:
More than 18 million American adults have sleep apnea. It is very difficult at present to estimate the prevalence of childhood OSA because of widely varying monitoring techniques, but a minimum prevalence of 2 to 3% is likely, with prevalence as high as 10 to 20% in habitually snoring children. It is suggested that if a patient is symptomatic of snoring, in addition to two other co-morbidities, a sleep test may be needed to further diagnose a sleep disorder. Also, with treatment options ever changing, physicians must be made aware of all the alternatives in order to properly achieve a compliant patient.
Best practices:
The ultimate goal upon taking this course will be for physicians to leave the seminar feeling confident on their basic knowledge of sleep, sleep testing/ordering, and the various treatment options that are now available to their patients. By becoming more educated in sleep, physicians will have the opportunity to improve the quality of life for their patients without the prescribing of any additional medication.
Course Objectives: Objectives:

* To properly detect, diagnose, and manage sleep disorders to children and adolescents who would otherwise go misdiagnosed or left untreated
* To accurately diagnose and prescribe the proper testing option to most positively aid in treating the patient and managing their compliance and therefore improving their quality of life
* To educate patients on the various treatment options that make them feel most comfortable and work with their insurance so that the percentage of patient compliance propagates
