Hemophilia: An Update on Diagnosis, Classification, and Age-Related Management Strategies
Activity Description
The
Hemophilia: An Update on Diagnosis, Classification, and Age-Related Management Strategies
monograph provides an overview of the diagnosis and treatment of hemophilia A. New and emerging diagnostic tools and treatments will be presented along with a discussion on the transition from pediatric to adult care and frequent comorbid conditions.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for internal medicine and primary care physicians, hematologists, pediatricians, geriatricians, orthopedists and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with hemophilia.
Method of Participation
The estimated time to complete this activity is 1 hour. To obtain credit, participants should register for the activity, take the online pretest, read the monograph, answer the multiple-choice posttest questions, and complete the evaluation form to receive a downloadable certificate immediately upon completion.
Educational Objectives
Following completion of this educational activity, learners should be able to:
• Recognize presenting symptoms of hemophilia and determine appropriate diagnostic tools to confirm and assess severity
• Implement current treatment strategies for hemophilia
• Identify difficulties and potential barriers to treatment adherence surrounding the care of hemophilia patients
Statement of Need
Recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of hemophilia have allowed many patients to experience decreased bleeding episodes and improved long-term patient outcomes. Currently, patients with hemophilia are able to experience quality of life similar to their healthy counterparts. Yet despite recent therapeutic advances, several barriers remain in optimizing patient outcomes, including costs, knowledge and experience in diagnosis and management, and patient adherence.
