Cool Topics in Neonatology 21st Annual Conference
Activity Details
Activity Name: Cool Topics in Neonatology 21st Annual Conference
Needs Assessment:

This is the twenty-first annual conference presented by the California Association of Neonatologists (CAN) and the AAP District IX Section on Perinatal Pediatrics. The meeting will include an optional workshop to help participants utilize CPQCC resources to improve perinatal outcomes. The conference and combined meeting will be dedicated to a scientific and practice-oriented discussion of current topics and controversies in perinatal and neonatal medicine.

The optional California Perinatal Quality Care Collaborative (CPQCC) workshop is geared to teams of caregivers from perinatal and neonatal units (neonatologists, obstetricians, neonatal nurse practitioners, infection control nurses, nutritionists, lactation consultants, respiratory therapists) who can effect change in the topics presented.

The optional Friday afternoon Neonatal CPT Coding Update Seminar is for neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and neonatal billing personnel.

The Saturday and Sunday education program is directed to neonatologists, pediatricians, NNPs, and will provide an update on topics pertinent to current practice.

Course Objectives: At the conclusion of the program participants should be able to:
  • Identify existing California datasets (CPQCC, CMQCC, HRIF, CPeTS etc) and their utility in benchmarking quality care and value.
  • List three areas of potential quality improvement that you will explore by using at least one of the California datasets discussed.
  • Define Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and discuss the current state-wide and national approaches to decreasing current variation in medical management.
  • Describe the current TJC reporting requirements for exclusive breast milk feeding in all newborns and find ways to overcome barriers to implementation.
