BRIEF SUMMARY This webinar draws attention to the impact of second hand smoke (SHS) on children, and offers pediatricians solutions including offering nicotine replacement therapy and a quitline referral to parents. The presentation also reviews the latest American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations around e-cigarettes.
OBJECTIVE After viewing the course video, participants should be able to: 1. Identify children exposed to secondhand smoke (SHS). 2. Assist parents by offering nicotine replacement therapy and a referral to the California Smokers’ Helpline. 3. Counsel parents on e-cigarette usage around children.
Target Audience This free activity was designed for University of California faculty, staff and students but also open to other healthcare professionals. Note: all respiratory care practitioners (RCP) wanting RCP credit must 1. select "Respiratory Therapist" as their occupation and 2. enter their RCP number in the evaluation form.
