Activity Name:	3rd Annual UCHMC Research Symposium
Description:	University of California Hematologic Malignancies Consortium Meeting
Needs Assessment:	The 3rd Annual UCHMC Research Symposium will include discussions on opportunities for collaboration across the UC system, application of novel therapies in hematologic malignancies and ongoing clinical trials currently being conducted by the UC Hematologic Malignancies Consortium. Expert Needs- Planning Committee and Departmental Chair Participant Needs- Previous Related Evaluation Summary- included from 2016 and 2017 Observed Needs- Other clinical observance, national clinical guidelines: NCCN guidelines for the treatment of hematologic malignancies include the use of clinical trials across the board. NCCN guidelines for ALL included as example. Per the NCCN, "NCCN believes that the best management for any cancer patient is a clinical trial. Participation in clinical trials is especially encouraged."
Course Objectives:	The objectives of this meeting are to gain an understanding of how basic research discoveries are being translated into clinical trials, gain a better understanding of best practice in the management of hematologic malignancies and to become familiar with targeted and immunotherapeutic approaches for the treatment of hematologic malignancies. Physicians, mid-level practitioners, clinical trials staff, fellows, students, basic and translational scientists are encouraged to attend and participate. We are hopeful that this meeting will help (1) patients receive effective treatments, (2) develop innovative clinical trials and (3) spur new translational laboratory investigations within the UC system.
