Interstitial Lung Disease: The Changing Landscape 2018
Activity Details
Activity Name:
Interstitial Lung Disease: The Changing Landscape 2018
Needs Assessment:
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a disease category that encompasses dozens of pathobiologically distinct conditions, and it poses substantial challenges to the practicing pulmonologist. There is considerable confusion in the medical community regarding the diagnosis and management of ILD resulting in significant delays in diagnosis and treatment. Treatment options are rapidly evolving with the development of new medications and the completion of large clinical trials in various forms of ILD. In addition, there is increasing recognition of ILD that runs in families for which there is a genetic predisposition and for which genetic testing may play a role to inform clinical care and screening of at-risk family members. Therefore, this course is designed to provide a general framework for the diagnosis of ILD, to provide the most up-to-date information on treatment of ILD, and to introduce practitioners to the role of genetics in ILD biology and clinical care.
Course Objectives:
This course is designed to improve the ability of providers to:
Adopt a practical approach to the diagnosis of ILD that includes the integration of clinical, radiographic, and pathologic information;
Recognize ILD cases with a familial or genetic cause, the role of genetic testing in these cases, and potential management implications;
Develop a comprehensive management plan for patients with ILD that includes both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies.
