Diagnostic Advances in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology
This two-day interactive course will address key updates in 4 topics: dermatopathology, gynecologic, gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary and genitourinary pathology. A stepwise approach to pathology diagnosis in these subspecialty topic areas in surgical pathology and cytopathology will be addressed. The course will also provide guidance in the use and interpretation of molecular and immunohistochemical testing in difficult diagnostic scenarios.

Activity Name: Diagnostic Advances in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology
Description: This two-day interactive course will address key updates in 4 topics: dermatopathology, gynecologic, gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary and genitourinary pathology. A stepwise approach to pathology diagnosis in these subspecialty topic areas in surgical pathology and cytopathology will be addressed. The course will also provide guidance in the use and interpretation of molecular and immunohistochemical testing in difficult diagnostic scenarios.
Course Objectives: At the completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the most recent changes in prostate cancer pathology classification and diagnosis
  • Apply critical diagnostic criteria to appropriately classify kidney cancer subtypes and variants
  • Recall diagnostic criteria essential to the diagnosis of inflammatory skin lesions
  • Apply critical diagnostic criteria to appropriately classify dermatologic melanocytic lesions
  • Apply a methodological approach to the diagnosis of neoplastic liver biopsies
  • Use morphologic criteria to identify and classify gallbladder and biliary neoplasia
  • Apply a methodological approach to thyroid cytology
  • Use updated criteria for diagnosis of salivary gland lesions in cytologic samples
  • Recognize classic patterns and pitfalls of endometrial carcinoma in pathology samples
  • Use a differential diagnosis approach to correctly diagnose pancreatic lesions on cytology specimen
  • Determine and properly utilize Milan criteria in the diagnosis of salivary gland cytology
  • Integrate appropriate immunohistochemical analysis to gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic and dermatologic specimens
  • Identify common medical renal disorders in neoplastic nephrectomy specimen
