The purpose of the Pediatric Acute Clinical Education Sessions (PACES) is to share pediatric clinical guidelines with clinicians caring for pediatric patients at community hospitals and external affiliate sites on topics such as asthma, bronchiolitis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and sepsis. A UC Davis Children’s Hospital physician will provide an overview of the selected pediatric clinical guidelines, and participants from community hospitals will be invited to present a case for group discussion.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

1. Implement evidence based and expert consensus guidelines for pediatric ED and inpatient care
2. Provide community partners with the education, clinical guidelines and resources to ensure appropriate care
3. Enhance the level of care for pediatrics in community hospital EDs and inpatient wards
4. Determine which pediatric patients may receive care at their local hospital and indications for transfers to a pediatric referral center
5. Increase evidence-based care of pediatric patients
6. Define SIRS and sepsis for pediatric patients
7. Discuss criteria for sepsis
8. Review diagnostic and management strategies for children with sepsis

The course material consisting of a video presentation that takes approximately 1 hour to complete.

Method of participation:

  1. View video - handout of slides are available in PDF format
  2. Complete the test (Passing score is 100% and with three possible attempts)
  3. Complete the evaluation
  4. Certificate is available after passing the test and completing the evaluation
