Needs Assessment: The Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Kidney Transplantation, Department of Medicine, University of California Irvine School of Medicine will present this full-day CME course for physicians (nephrologists, internists, urologists, family practitioners, etc.) and allied health professionals (dietitians, nurses, social workers, etc.) titled, The 1st UCI Hypertension Symposium: Fundamental Concept, Current Practice, and Future Direction. The UCI Nephrology has teamed up with leading stakeholders and experts to take advantage of interests, expertise and insight for top-of-the line lectures and workshops.
Course Objectives:
  • Understand the rationale of factors affecting accurate blood pressure measurement.
  • Explain the standard blood pressure measurement technique recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Recognize the consequence of providing blood pressure and hypertension management based on inaccurate blood pressure data.
  • Explain the pathophysiology and mechanisms of the hypertension in special situation and specific population such as hypertensive emergency or urgency, resistant or refractory hypertension in patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease, endocrine-related hypertensive disorders, or pregnancy.
  • Identify an initial blood pressure management accurately in special situation and specific population such as hypertensive emergency or urgency, resistant or refractory hypertension in patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, end-stage kidney disease, endocrine-related hypertensive disorders, or pregnancy.
  • Implement pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options for optimal blood pressure and hypertension management.
