Activity Details
Activity Name:
39th Annual Infectious Diseases Conference
Description:
The goal of this activity is to provide an update of Infectious Disease with the focus on improving patient care. The conference will update the learners regarding changes in the epidemiology diagnosis and treatment of infections. The learner should be able to recognize patients with infectious diseases and manage them optimally.
Course Objectives:
Describe the association of inappropriate antimicrobial use with the development of resistant bacterial infections
Provide the role of the new antimicrobials in the treatment of infections due to multi-drug resistant infections
Discuss the optimal strategy for the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19
Describe the strategies for prevention and treatment of patients to improve outcomes in the patients and prevent mpox
Describe the optimal management of patients with recurrent CDI
List the types of infections and their clinical presentations
Contrast the different strategies for diagnosis and management of these infections
Certain diseases are seen more frequently in different populations, train people in this course to look beyond demographics and understand that these diseases can happen in any group.
Applying cultural and ethnic data also can determine risk of severity of certain infections and therefore the knowledge of those groups, may impact the way that they are managed. Ex: disseminated cocci occurs more frequently in people of Filipino descent, antifungal management may be different in that patient population when they present early in the course of illness.
Because a high percentage of patients with infectious diseases are from underrepresented minority groups, we routinely emphasize the fact that we care for all patients equally.
