UCSF Addiction Medicine Online Course
This e-course was recorded from the The 4th Annual UCSF Addiction CME Conference held in April 2023. It aims to increase the core competency of medical teams in the inpatient and outpatient settings to improve care for patients who use drugs. This conference will increase skills in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of common substance use disorders taught by local addiction experts. UCSF 2023 Addiction Medicine Online



The MATE (Medication Access and Training Expansion) Act requires new or renewing DEA licensees (prescribers of Schedule II – V controlled substances) to complete eight (8) hours of training on the treatment and management of patients with substance use disorders. This eight-hour online course recorded from the 4th Annual UCSF Addiction Medicine CME Conference aims to increase the core competency of medical teams in the inpatient and outpatient settings to improve care for patients who use drugs. This course will increase skills in diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of common substance use disorders through didactics and discussions taught by local addiction experts.

Study at your own pace with eight videos focused on substance use disorder as a brain disease, methadone, buprenorphine inductions, stimulants and drug-involved deaths, hospital-based care, street medicine, pregnancy and SUD, and adolescent addiction medicine.


This CME opportunity meets the SAMHSA Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act 8-hour training requirement for DEA licensing or renewal.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Apply new knowledge to better recognize substance use (SU) disorders;
  2. Revise screening practices to align with evidence-based recommendations for SU;
  3. Apply evidence-based treatments of SU disorders;
  4. Apply strategies to improve clinical team collaboration and practice;
  5. Apply communication strategies for more effective team care of patients with SU.

FEES

The cost to participate in this activity is $75.00.


Cancellations and Refunds: Cancellations should be made in writing within 7 days of enrollment. Refunds will only be made in the event that technical difficulties prevent completion of the activity, or if no interaction with the material occurred because of inadvertent or mistaken enrollment, or expiration of the activity before the learner had the opportunity to complete it fully. Fees can be transferred to another activity in the case of mistaken enrollment.

California Psychologists: This educational activity is recognized by the California Board of Psychology as meeting the continuing education requirements toward license renewal for California psychologists. Psychologists are responsible for reporting their own attendance to the California Board of Psychology. Psychologists from other states should check with their respective licensing boards.

This CME/CE opportunity meets the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act requirements from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) training on substance use disorders. Providers planning to receive or renew their DEA registration can earn 8.0 hours towards their one-time eight-hour MATE requirement by completing the entire activity.

This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency.
