5th Annual UCI Rhinoplasty Course
Rhinoplasty Course in Orange, CA in May 2018
Activity Details
Activity Name: 5th Annual UCI Rhinoplasty Course
Description: Rhinoplasty Course in Orange, CA in May 2018
Needs Assessment: Rhinoplasty surgery has developed and evolved dramatically over the past 25 years with the development of new techniques and approaches to restoring a patent airway and producing an optimal aesthetic outcome. There have been innumerable advances in this type of operation which rely upon new techniques involving grafting and advanced instrumentation. There has not been a rhinoplasty course with a cadaver dissection component in Southern California in over 20 years and there is definitely a demand for this as there is no local regional course in Southern California. There is little opportunity to participate in cadaveric courses without surgeons traveling to either the Mid West or the East Coast.
The absence of this training opportunity is the primary driving force for the development of this course. This concept was developed in concert with Dr. Roger Crumley, the Emeritus Chairman of Otolaryngology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center and the former President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Dr. Mark Evans Krugman, both of whom are senior facial plastic surgeons in Orange County. Dr. Brian Wong contacted Dr. Tom Wang regarding the value of such a course in Southern California as well as speaking to numerous members of the Orange County Society for Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, and speaking with other academic surgeons at UCSD, UCLA and USC, as well as those in private practice in Newport Beach and Beverly Hills. Overwhelmingly, the concept of developing an Orange County / Southern California rhinoplasty course appeared to be a very important measure, particularly due to the lack of training opportunities in this community.
Course Objectives: Objectives:
At the conclusion of the activity the participant should be able to:
* explain how to achieve more predictable rhinoplasty outcomes
* describe contemporary surgical techniques for use in aesthetic rhinoplasty
* list ways to optimally manage revision rhinoplasty operations
