BRIEF SUMMARY The California Smokers' Helpline is a free telephone counseling service operated by UC San Diego. Helping a smoker develop a quit plan and having follow-up support has doubled the chances of a smoker quitting. The services are available in Spanish and 4 Asian languages, can help evaluate for medication options including free nicotine patches if available, and open to friends and families of smokers seeking help.
OBJECTIVE After viewing the course video, participants should be able to describe the California Smokers' Helpline free telephone counseling services for tobacco users.
Target Audience This free activity was designed for University of California faculty, staff and students but also open to other healthcare professionals. Note: all respiratory care practitioners (RCP) wanting RCP credit must 1. select "Respiratory Therapist" as their occupation and 2. enter their RCP number in the evaluation form.
