Needs Assessment:
There have been significant advancements in the management of Otolaryngologic problems in the pediatric age group over the past decade. Pediatric ear, nose and throat disorders occupy nearly 40% of a general otolaryngologist?s practice.
This course has been designed to educate the general otolaryngologist about the recent advancements in the diagnosis and management of pediatric ENT disorders. There has been no course available to general otolaryngologists in Southern California focusing on pediatric ENT disorders in recent years.
A needs assessment of community otolaryngologists established the necessity to provide an update on new clinical practice guidelines, as well as new developments in the medical and surgical management of pediatric ear, nose and throat disorders.
Course Objectives:
Objectives:
* At the conclusion of the activity, the participant should be able to: list advantages of intracapsular tonsillectomy in children
* Describe contemporary surgical management and workup of pediatric hearing loss
* Accurately assess the severity of pediatric sleep disorders and appropriately refer for polysomnogram when indicated
* Determine when neurocognitive deficits are caused by sleep problems and avoid misdiagnosing ADHD and hyperactivity when the true cause may be OSA
* Manage pediatric otitis effusion in accordance with the current accepted guidelines.
