41st Annual Fingers to the Toes: A Comprehensive Review of Primary Care Orthopaedics
Activity Details
Activity Name:
41st Annual Fingers to the Toes: A Comprehensive Review of Primary Care Orthopaedics
Needs Assessment:
Primary care providers have a tremendous challenge to initially evaluate all medical problems brought to them by their patients. However, few primary care residency programs provide satisfactory exposure to orthopaedics. This conference is designed to update participants on the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of common and serious orthopaedic conditions. Emphasizing an anatomical approach, we begin with the fingers and proceed through the upper limb, down the spine, along the leg to the toes. This approach provides a comprehensive review of orthopaedics that is applicable to daily practice and is clinically relevant. Information on topics will include the physical exam to diagnose and medically manage certain orthopaedic conditions; functional knowledge of anatomy; choosing correct casting/splinting for specific injuries; proper referrals; joint tap injections; x-ray interpretations; osteoporosis; and pediatric orthopaedic exam, diagnosis and treatment. Emergency physicians can expect to use the information to care for the patient with an acute orthopaedic injury.
