Pituitary Disorders: Advances in Diagnosis and Management
This course gives endocrinologists, neurosurgeons, and other providers who care for patients with pituitary disorders a review and update of the more commonly encountered problems in the realm of pituitary medicine.
Our speakers are recognized experts in the field, and several have participated in the development of specialty clinical practice guidelines. Others have written about medical decision-making and the art of medicine. Activity Name: Pituitary Disorders: Advances in Diagnosis and Management

Course Objectives: Those attending and participating in this course will be able to improve skills and strategies to:
  • Evaluate and treat patients with acromegaly as individuals, with a more clear understanding of the role of guidelines in medical decision making;
  • Recognize the caveats in the management of patients with nonfunctioning adenomas and design appropriate patient-specific plans for management and follow-up;
  • Recognize, diagnose, and treat the various forms of hyponatremia in patients with pituitary disorders;
  • Recognize the indications for pituitary surgery in patients with pituitary adenomas;
  • Improve treatment of complications from pituitary surgery;
  • Apply medical decision making in the management of patients with prolactinomas to recommend a treatment plan ensuring the best and most cost-effective outcomes;
  • Select the appropriate surgical procedures to resect pituitary adenomas, weighing their risks and benefits, and properly select patients for either endoscopic or microscopic transphenoidal surgery;
  • Incorporate and apply the newest guidelines for the management of growth hormone deficiency in patients with pituitary disorders in their practice;
  • Properly use radiotherapy in the management of patients with pituitary adenomas and establish a long-term plan of follow-up to assess response and to detect complications;
  • Interpret pituitary imaging studies with an emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging of the sella;
  • Diagnose and treat patients with residual or recurrent Cushing's syndrome using all available therapeutic modalities.
